Quilty

I started a quilt last spring, and now that I have plenty of free time (and my mother's sewing machine), I thought I'd resume working on it.

I don't really want to do that right now, though. I don't want to try to find a job, either. I just want to sit on the back porch with my coffee and my book, enjoying the early fall weather. It's so lovely outside.

Oh, and.

Lest I fool myself into thinking that my life is all lovely things, ice cream and banana bread, it should be noted that on Saturday night, while staying in and watching Titanic because I was sick, I also decided to get ordained.

And now I am.

It took two seconds on the internet. Wedding, anyone?
The same banana bread we've made my whole life.

I did indeed make banana bread. It was delicious, and I couldn't even wait to photograph it before I tried some. Oh, well. Self-control is overrated.

Butter

The best way to eat this banana bread is toasted, with lots of butter. I figure that I am sick, so my body needs all the calories that come with the butter to get better. If you disagree, kindly keep it to yourself.

I spent the rest of yesterday shopping in Davis Square and Copley and drinking coffee at some of my favorite cafes (man, I drink a lot of coffee). All in all, a lovely day.

Sick Day

Goodbye, Bi-Rite Ice Cream

I woke up yesterday with the most terriblest cold. My nose was stuffy, my body ached and I was completely exhausted. I stayed inside all day until after dinner, when I went with my family to JP Licks in Davis Square, since my friend Holly is staying with us while she finds a place to live in Boston, and had never had ice cream in New England (ice cream is definitely something we do better on this side of the country).

We followed our ice cream outing with a viewing of Titanic. It absolutely is as good twelve years later as it was the first time I watched it in seventh grade with Stephanie and Perly on our first ever movie trip sans grownups.

Today I think I'll make some banana bread and lie in the hammock, reading my book. Low-key days make getting better easier.

*It should be noted that this photo is actually from San Francisco. Bi-Rite was the only good ice cream I could find in the whole of the city, and so of course I included them on the epic food adventure I took before moving back east.

Tapeworms.

In each of the past four days, I have followed dinner with a fourth meal, sometime around 10 or 11. I have done this each night because I am ravenous, so hungry the thought of going to sleep without providing myself with sustenance to get me through the night was enough to make me want to die.
I think I have a tapeworm.
Except those things make you skinnier, don't they? I'm not getting any skinnier, just hungrier.

In other news, I am dying to make this recipe. I think it would be so fun to have some ladies over for lunch and serve this with salad, biscuits and lemonade. Maybe I shall do that next weekend. If I can get rid of the tapeworm by then. Otherwise, I'm saving all that food for my worm and me.

Back in Massachusetts

I have a long post coming about saying goodbye to California (two oceans in twelve hours! many delicious California foods! friends!), but I'm not really interested in that right now.
This week, I've spent a lot of time sitting at home, going to summer camp with the same child I hung out with last summer, and eating poached eggs.
I hope next week is more productive.

And Boston It Is

I'm moving back. On Wednesday, I fly to California, spend two and a half days packing up my stuff, and then move back here to seek out real employment. I'm super-excited to be back on the right coast again, although I will miss California muchly.

In other news, how to swim like an Otter, courtesy of our Fourth of July camping trip.
