Since the weather's gotten cold, I've been cooking my breakfast every single morning.
Somehow, the process of filling the pot with water, of walking into the pantry to measure out my oats, of sprinkling cinnamon and dried orange peel, and then standing over the pot and stirring while it bubbles, leaves me feeling centered and ready to face the day.
When your day is full of IRB training followed by HIPAA training, a little centering in the morning is a good thing.
P.S. Want to hear my funny joke? Okay. IRB COULD stand for Institutional Review Board OR it could stand for I'm Really Bored. I'm just the funniest person I ever did meet. Also, modest.
You have a walk-in pantry?! That's sooo awesome. In my little apartment we have so much cooking stuff it spills over onto shelves we've put in the living room, haha.

Oh what I wouldn't do for a pantry! I have also started hot breakfast season, only I am currently on a cream of wheat kick, yum. And IRB most definitely stands for I'm Really Bored. I do not miss those days.
ReplyDeleteI'm also on the porridge diet. Let's beat that cold chill with a hearty breakfast!
ReplyDeleteCinnamon and orange!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect combination.
Oh, Abbie, I totally feel you. I had to go through IRB training too and had to manage some projects aach---. It gets even more interesting when you have to get IRB approval from other countries.
ReplyDeleteholy crap, cinnamon and orange peel sounds AMAZING.
ReplyDeletemmm i am obsessed with oatmeal. try adding nutmeg and canned pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteI'm so adding cinnamon and orange to my oatmeal now!!

ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect wintery weather warmer. And IRBs, don't even get me started! Aaagh!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to have oatmeal this year...I will do it tomorrow because of this post. I need a little centeredness to start my days off.
ReplyDeleteMmm, the orange peel and cinnamon sound amazing too!
Ooh, that sounds delicious. I do enjoy a nice bowl of porridge in the morning. I've never tried it with dried orange peel though, and now I have a hankering for it!
ReplyDeleteCan I ask, this may sound silly, but, with the orange peel, before you dry it, do you grate it, cut it up into little pieces, or leave it as a whole and cut it up as you need it? I am intrigued!
