Man.

These past couple of days have been rough.

Nothing unmanageable, and most of the trouble has been my own doing,* but still. I am ready for life to go on an upswing again. Meanwhile, last.fm knew my mood perfectly today, and look what they played me:

This song, some farmer's market asparagus for dinner, and a little House Hunters International is starting to make me feel better already.

*Except the huge pipe explosion and subsequent boil water order for the entire metro Boston area, minus Cambridge. I had nothing to do with that.

Either I am crazy or I would make a good housewife

I just spent an hour doing dishes.
It was kind of fun.
Also, I feel very satisfied now.

OH NO

Oh no.
My Chia Pet widget died! I took such good care of it! I don't know what happened!
I feel like such a failure.

A previous life

I am a nerd. This is a well-established fact. What changes, however, is the focus of my nerdy love.
In high school I took Latin instead of a "practical," "non-dead" language . I was horrible at it, but our Latin class was small (by senior year, there were only four people in it), and we bonded over the beauty of Ovid and Virgil. I relished my Latin nerdiness. It was one of those things that really defined who I was, in some weird way.
I haven't taken a Latin class in four years now, but, cleaning out my bookshelves at home yesterday, I found some very special books.

Yes, those are two DIFFERENT Winnie the Pooh books in Latin, Cattus Petasatus (by Doctore Seuss, no less!) and the Latin Bible.

These days, there is a whole section of my bookshelf devoted to books on child development and autism.

My, oh my, how things have changed.

Oh, My

Oh me oh my.
My email server has been down all day. Now it's back up and running, and I'm getting EVERY SINGLE EMAIL that I didn't get all day.
This is insane.
I missed a whole blitzwar about bikini waxes. I was kind of excited that I didn't get them.
Now they're coming all at once.
Yay.

Oh, My part III

I just had a bowl of cheerios with bananas and skim milk. It gave me heartburn.
I am SUCH an old lady.

First Meetings and Firemen, Oh My!

Rush is over. This is an excellent thing. Because it means that we get new pledgies. All of whom seem like great girls. But one of the best things about having pledgies is that with pledgies comes first meetings. At first meetings, all of the pledgies get dressed up in flair and have a dance party.

The pledgies are also encouraged to do other things that are often associated with greek life, like drinking. But we're a nice sorority, and we care about our pledgies, so we remind them that the drinking is:
That says "only if you want to,"and we really do say that, which is one of the things I love about my sorority. All of the "pledgie stuff" really IS only if you want to. Some people did get tipsy, though, and they pretended to make out, 'cause that's totally what we do in sororitees- get drunk and make out with each other.

Once that was over and we had brought the pledges to the secret special place to sing karaoke, someone accidentally set of the fire alarm in the house while boiling water. We had to run outside in the freezing cold, wearing clothes that were not really appropriate:
(I almost ran outside barefoot, but then I put on some shoes that I found in the hallway)
(You can't tell, but the sweatshirt I'm wearing here is two sizes too small. I also found that in the hallway.)

Luckily, the firemen came and saved the day:
Then we went back inside and had a naked pillow fight.

Oh, My Part II

At 11:11, I actually kissed my clock. I am crazy.
Also, is Oh, My an old lady phrase? I think it is. But it's not like a cool, hip, look-at-me-I-use-Church-Lady-phrases kind of old lady phrase. I think it just makes me kind of a dork. Which, really, nobody thought I was before.
But I must go back to my homework. I have a test in two and a half hours and I haven't cracked a book for it yet.

Oh, My

I know I've been spending too much time doing sorority-related things when I start wanting! to! end! everything! with an exclamation point!
