Tacos Lupita

Do you guys know I used to live in San Francisco?

It's true. For a year after college, I pretended to be a crazy Californian. Then I realized I was far too neurotic to make it out there, so I moved home and here I am.

One thing I really miss about California is the food. (Also my friends, I suppose. But really, the burritos.) Last night, while walking home from the grocery store, I decided to finally stop into Tacos Lupita, the place everyone says to go when you're looking for good South American food in Boston.

It's charming, in the way that any good taqueria is. A little bit run-down, but a lot bit delicious.

Everyone was right. The tacos al pastor filled my belly and made me miss San Francisco just a little bit less. I can't wait to go back.

P.S. That bit in my last post about "being the person I've always dreamed about being?" Oh dear me. What was I talking about? I mean, yeah, I accomplished a lot, but I like to think I aim a bit higher than going for long runs and making cakes! And then bragging about it all on the internet? Ugh. Thanks for the supportive comments, though!

  1. Ha it is funny because I definitely make cakes, go on long runs and brag about it on the internet ... maybe not brag about it but blogging is a bit of tooting one's own horn. I grew up with the best Mexican food being that I am half Mexican ... and those tacos look yummy! XO!

  6. Yum! I love when you can associate food with good experiences and places.

And what are you talking about? Being a runner and a baker are two very lofty ideals I hold (I don't think the former will ever ring true). I think, in that one day yesterday, you were being your BEST self!

  7. Yum!

I actually went to a South American restaurant last night too. (www.solebuffalo.com)

We had fresh guacamole made table side and let me tell you, there is no other guacamole besides fresh made table side guacamole.

    Yum!

  8. Okay, that actually looks good which is weird since I've never been impressed (read: always been horrified) by Mexican food north of the Mason Dixon line. Okay, really, Mexican food north of Texas. There. I said it.

But I feel you and your need for a good burrito. Mmmmmmmm. Glad you were able to find somewhere yummy!

  9. This looks delish! We used to go to this little hole in the wall place in Waltham while I was in grad school that fits this same description. I can't remember the name of it anymore, but it was definitely a bit run down, very bare, but very very delicious. They pretty much knew the whole lab by name during the summers. Aaaaaaand now I'm craving their burritos.

  14. First of all, one could do worse than be a person who makes incredible cakes and goes for kickass runs.

Second of all, I would like to go this taco place.

Third, I always kind of thought of Cambridge as Berkeley meets cold climate meets Kennedy sensibility.

  20. I'm a New Yorker (and Guatemalan) and I hear that West coast latin food is far better. But, along with your suggestion, and so many places I have tried here in the city, I have to say there is some major competition on our hands!
